DANCE WITH THE ONE WHO BRUNG YA (11-24-08)

Republicans, find your voice, stick to basic fundamentals & make voters think! "It's still the economy (part 2)

And the budget ....stupid" Barack Obama, and the interest he has generated during the latest election has brought more people and interest in our political process. Increased participation, and interest in the politics, and the policies, of our nation, can only be thought of as a good thing for our republic. I strongly believe the great majority of Americans, as they begin to understand the the general beliefs and differences between the political parties, will join the smaller, less intrusive form of government the conservative movement espouses. The center-right policies that the large majority of Americans would back, if they were properly informed as to the real differences between of the competing political philosophies, would place this country back on the path of promises made 230 years ago. A strong government, both economically and militarily, but kept in check as far as domestic power over over it's states and the private citizen at large. An informed vote, rather than the "American Idol" popularity contest, is a necessity to keep this government from taking steps too far toward fascist authoritarian or social communist leans. If this increased participation translates to an increased study and understanding of the issues, and the competing plans to address them, the American conservative movement will stay strong indefinitely. The historical study of past policies, both the successes and the failures, stand as proof that a free market system under limited government intrusion has made this union the greatest country on the planet. Responsibility now falls on republicans, and the republican party, to return to it's core beliefs and retool towards more basic undiluted messages that the American electorate will more easily understand and identify with. The shameful performances over the last 10 years have done nothing to shrink government and done very little to slow it's growth. It seems fairly obvious to me that pointing out the failures of fundamental liberal policies enacted in the past have our country speeding toward a cliff. Simply informing the voter that the insurmountable unfunded liabilities our country is headed for will bankrupt our country and doom our economy for generations would do a lot to get voters rethinking their voting history. Explaining that the failed socialist thinking that infected our country from the 1920's through the 1970's were poorly thought out pyramid schemes destined to fail and that the same sort of thinking is still backed by elected officials today. The socialist democratic party has repeatedly pointed to the "New Deal" and "Great Society" as the great modern accomplishments of their party and our government as a whole. Not to call them on this, and condemn them for this, is the great mystery I have yet to solve. Political strategy has not been one of the great republican skills over the last couple decades. Democrats, somehow, have been able to pin global commodity prices, corporate scandals, and natural disasters of unforeseen proportion on President Bush and the republican party. The average American is not smart enough to see through this because democrat claims are not properly countered. The average American voter believes the president has huge amounts of power to control everything, everywhere. They have it in their heads that the position of the president is like the kings of old. Why can't someone, somewhere, educate the electorate that he does not, and should not, posses this unlimited power to control all. Americans have polled in favor of the democrats on issues related to the economy. This is unbelievable to me. Does know one remember the Carter administration? Sure the nineties went well. But despite the Clinton policies, not because of them. Fact is, he was Lucky enough to ride the tech bubble. As his term ended, and that bubble popped, we all paid dearly. How do people not remember eight years ago? Seems every time we attempt to address the economic disasters the democratic entitlement programs have steered us towards, democrats claim we are attempting to take something from you or cut something you are supposed to receive. Truth is, you have nothing owed to you other than what has been taken from you. If the program(s) are headed toward bankruptcy, either they need to take more from you to cover the cost or give you less than they promised with they amount they did take. That's the choice, it's really pretty simple. How hard is that to convey? More costly, inefficient socialistic government programs, or a less costly, "provide for yourself'" health care and retirement market -w- a limited government subsidy. The problems have been in sight, and the changes have been needed, for a very long time. The longer the socialists dominate the political discourse on these issues, the harder and more costly the repairs will be. While the problem was created by Roosevelt and Johnson, their no longer here to take the blame. The cause of the problem is socialist democrat thinking. They own the blame. But the failure to correct it, and the increased cost now to fix it, is blame for all to share. Until republican talking points get "dumbed down" to where they can be more easily understood, democrats will continue to lie, cheat, and mislead themselves into power.
